Chennai and its industrial belt along the Sriperumbudur, Oragadam and Ambattur corridors are home to automobile plants and the hundreds of suppliers that serve them, along with engineering firms, logistics companies, hospitals, IT services companies and long-established family businesses. For a supplier owed money, a lender facing a default or a shareholder in a family company, NCLT Chennai on Rajaji Salai, and the NCLAT's Chennai Bench at Chepauk, are the forums that matter.
We serve Chennai clients through an associate office in the city, with our Delhi NCR team preparing papers and strategy. That suits Tamil Nadu clients and northern businesses dealing with Chennai counterparties alike. This page explains what we do, the issues Chennai clients bring most often, and how a matter runs. For the bench itself, see NCLT Chennai.

When a customer goes into CIRP: a supplier's checklist
For a Chennai component supplier, a customer's insolvency is a serious event. The moratorium stops recovery actions immediately. The supplier should file its claim in Form B with the interim resolution professional, within the time in the public announcement, attaching purchase orders, invoices, delivery proof, GST records and the ledger. If the resolution professional asks for continued supplies, get written confirmation that they will be paid as CIRP costs, with payment terms, before supplying. Check whether tooling or dies you own are lying at the customer's plant, and write to the resolution professional to record your ownership. Finally, follow the process: if your claim is rejected or reduced, you can apply to the NCLT, but act before a plan is approved.
Northern businesses with Chennai counterparties
A Delhi, Punjab or UP business owed money by a Chennai company can instruct our Delhi NCR team, which reviews the papers, sends the demand notice and drafts the petition. Our associate office in Chennai files it and appears at hearings. Appeals from NCLT Chennai go to NCLAT Chennai, not New Delhi, and we brief associate counsel there too, with our team attending contested hearings as agreed. How we work for Chennai clients
We are a litigation practice led by Advocate BK Singh, with offices in Dwarka (New Delhi) and Vaishali (Ghaziabad), and an associate office in Chennai. This is what you can expect:
- Local access: an associate office in Chennai.
- Supplier claims done properly: complete documents and written terms for continued supply.
- Northern clients supported: meet in Delhi NCR for Chennai matters.
- Honest advice: whether the NCLT, a suit or negotiation suits the case.
- Written fee terms: agreed stage by stage, never linked to the outcome.
Mistakes Chennai clients often make
- Supplying a customer in CIRP without written payment terms
- Leaving tooling at a customer's plant without recording ownership
- Missing the claim deadline in a customer's CIRP
- Filing a Chennai appeal at NCLAT New Delhi
- Using Section 9 where quality was disputed before the notice
A Delhi lender and a Chennai borrower
Here's a made-up example. A Delhi NBFC had lent Rs 4 crore to a Chennai logistics company, which defaulted after losing a major contract. The NBFC's team was in Delhi.
Our Delhi team prepared a Section 7 application with the loan documents and the record of default from the information utility. Our associate office in Chennai filed it before NCLT Chennai and appeared. The company's promoters, wanting to avoid admission, negotiated a settlement before the second hearing, paying a large part upfront with the balance secured, and the application was withdrawn.
A supplier's tooling at a customer's plant
Here's a second made-up example. A Chennai sheet metal supplier had its own press tools at a customer's plant when the customer was admitted into CIRP. The interim resolution professional listed the tools among the customer's assets.
We wrote to the resolution professional with the purchase invoices for the tools, the tooling agreement and photographs of the identification marks, asking that they be excluded from the estate. When the professional did not respond, we applied to NCLT Chennai, which directed that the tools be returned to the supplier.
Family companies in Chennai
Chennai has many family groups that have run businesses for generations, often through several private companies with shares held across branches of the family and in trusts. When a branch feels excluded, an oppression and mismanagement petition before NCLT Chennai can protect its position while the dispute is resolved. Interim orders may restrain changes to the board, new share issues or sales of property. Where the company works like a partnership among family members, a fair buy-out or a scheme to divide the businesses is the usual end point. We map the group and the shareholdings first, because the right petition must be filed in the right company.
Hospitals and healthcare companies
Chennai's hospitals and diagnostic centres are often run by companies whose shareholders include doctors, investors and sometimes overseas Indians. Disputes arise over control, payouts to promoter doctors and related-party arrangements, such as equipment leases or management fees paid to firms owned by insiders. An oppression petition can seek an independent audit, restraint on related-party payments and, if needed, a buy-out. Because a hospital must keep running, tribunals tend to make orders that protect patient care while the dispute is decided.
